Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace made its theatrical debut on May 19, 1999. Penned and directed by George Lucas, the film serves as the inaugural installment of the Star Wars saga but is chronologically the fourth film, following the original trilogy.

The prequels revisit the time when Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader, was a young aspirant Jedi (portrayed by Jake Lloyd) with grand ambitions. Concurrently, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, embark on a mission to safeguard Queen Padmé Amidala of Naboo amidst a tumultuous trade dispute, all while contending with the resurgence of the Sith.
