Star Wars: The Last Jedi Tops the Box Office for 2017 Releases

The Last Jedi Top 2017 Release

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has dominated the box office since it’s release, making it the top movie of 2017.  This includes both domestic and international audiences.

The latest Star Wars installment, directed by Rian Johnson, made $52.4 million over the weekend, from Dec. 29-Dec. 31,  That brings it’s domestic box office total to $517 million, topping Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast to becoming the highest domestic release of the year.

The movie brought in over $120 million globally this weekend as well.  With that, The Last Jedi has exceeded $1 billion to become the third-biggest global release of the year.  It it also ranked as the 24th-biggest release of all-time.

While some Star Wars fans have criticized the movie – and even started a petition to remove this film from the Star Wars cannon, that has not hurt the film’s box office success.

The Last Jedi has already topped last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in domestic box office numbers.
