The home where Walt Disney was born has been restored!
On Chicago’s North Side there is a home that holds a special place in history. A place where a certain kind of magic was born. The birthplace of Walt Disney.
This modest house had been sitting unoccupied and deteriorating until new owners and the Disney Family Foundation worked together to restore the now-over a century old home with a generous grant provided by the Disney Family Foundation.
On what would have been Walt Disney’s 117th Birthday and not long after Mickey’s 90th Birthday, the house was rededicated and even had a few special guests including members of the Disney Family and Mickey Mouse himself! The re-dedication drew a crowd of Disney fans who where eager to celebrate in this historic event and were entertained by a choir dressed in holiday gear outside the Chicago home.
Since 2013 the house has been slowly restored and renovated to its former glory. Though they are still collecting materials to showcase the home with period styled furnishing, they plan to open as a museum with interactive tours sometime in 2019.
Chicago’s WGN9 News Station got to take an informative tour of the home before it will be available to the public. Watch the short video tour of the home HERE.
