Disney Celebrates 40 Years of The Golden Girls With Cheesecake, Candles, and Commemorative Collectibles
Thank you for being a friend… and a fan! Disney is throwing one fabulous party for the 40th anniversary of The Golden Girls — and let’s just say, it’s shaping up to be the sassiest celebration of the year.
Starting July 30, the beloved sitcom that brought us laughter, wisdom, and late-night cheesecake will be honored with a lineup of limited-edition merch, experiences, and a nostalgic TV special. From wine to yogurt, brick toys to pillows, Disney Entertainment Television is pulling out all the stops for a campaign that’s part heart, part humor, and full Blanche Devereaux.

Here’s a taste of what’s coming — and yes, there’s cheesecake:
- Golden Girls Day – July 30: It all kicks off with a national day dedicated to Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia — just in time for National Cheesecake Day. Naturally.
- Yogurtland’s “Thank You for Being Cheesecake”: A cheesecake-flavored yogurt debuts July 30 and sticks around through August 17.
- Furbish Studio’s Pillow Drop: A cozy “Thank You for Being a Friend” throw pillow goes up for pre-order August 19, with a full launch September 12.
- Candier’s Cheesecake Candles: Coming September 14, light up your home with “I’ll Get the Cheesecake!” and “Thank You for Being a Friend” scented candles.
- Nocking Point Wines: On August 17, enjoy a bottle (or four!) inspired by each Golden Girl — a bold red for Dorothy, rosé for Rose, sauvignon blanc for Blanche, and a classic red blend for Sophia. Pair with sass and a side of sarcasm.
- Zero Waste Daniel’s Capsule Collection: Running July 31–August 17, this Brooklyn fashion brand is releasing a clothing line inspired by the show. Their flagship store will be transformed into a Golden Girls-themed dreamscape, pastel blazers and all.
- Brickcraft’s Buildable Tribute: A limited-edition building set arrives in November — perfect for the fan who’s been collecting sass since 1985.
- Fisher-Price Goes Mini: Using the adorable Little People “Late Night Cheesecake” set, new short-form episodes recreating classic show moments will drop starting July 30 via The Golden Girls, Mattel, and Fisher-Price social media accounts.
Plus: A One-Hour TV Special on the Way
ABC News is preparing a one-hour Golden Girls anniversary special, featuring interviews with series creator Susan Harris, producer Tony Thomas, and other key creatives. Set to debut this fall, the special will explore how four women and a whole lot of cheesecake changed television forever — celebrating the show’s fearless humor, trailblazing portrayals of women over 50, and its enduring place in pop culture.

Disney has already warmed things up with early tributes — including a fan-favorite Golden Girls script reading at ATX TV Festival and a throwback Lanai-themed fashion corner at the Disney+ Throwback Experience. Disneyland even joined the party last month during Pride Night, where guests recreated classic scenes and devoured celebratory cheesecake.
