As we reported last week, Lamplight Lounge at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure Park officially opened its doors to guests last weekend. The latest table service dining restaurant at the park celebrates the creativity, inspiration, and personalities of the artists that have brought our favorite Pixar stories to life. The details that went into bringing this restaurant to life are beyond magical with unique, special touches everywhere.
Take a look for yourself:
Lamplight Lounge was renovated from an old warehouse factory and features cool architectural elements such as concrete and exposes brick walls that reveal its storied past while creating an airy, bright, and eclectic ambiance. Anyone who visits the restaurant will be treated to a sprinkling of Pixar combined with California casual decor. The concept art, napkin sketches, knick-knacks, collectible toys, and various mementos “left behind” by the filmmakers are an extra special treat!
While visiting Lamplight Lounge, make sure to look “Up!” to see a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. the chandelier features sketch artwork and film quotes from Pixar films including “Coco,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” and more. The design features blank pages at the top, to represent one of the most difficult stages in the design process—starting with a blank slate—along with character artwork from artists in several Pixar departments.
As you venture downstairs, you will see a wall of t-shirts. Each t-shirt represents a little-known Pixar tradition during production. The t-shirts are examples of team shirts created during a film, celebrating accomplishments, inside jokes, or a certain department’s influence on a movie.
Several of the decorations you will see inside of Lamplight Lounge are inspired directly from the inside of Pixar Animation Studios’ campus where Pixar movies come to life. The dining room table inside the restaurant is a close replica of the “Cars”-themed table located in one of the Pixar conference rooms. Look close to the toys under many of the table tops and you will see die-cast toys inspired by “Cars” too!
Also from “Cars” above the “Cars” dining table, you will spot shelves of toys that have been pull straight from the Pixar archives. Below the toy shelves are examples of design comments and notes exchanged between Pixar and its toy manufacturing partners to ensure that the final product is as accurate as possible. Each toy goes through many rounds of notes in various forms, including drawings and creative reviews.
The details don’t end there! Visitors to Lamplight Lounge will discover film-related memorabilia along the art wall. Included is concept art, reference materials, props and physical renditions of artifacts from popular Pixar movies including “WALL-E,” “Toy Story,” and “Up!”
