Welcome to the Disney Week In Review from your friends at Chip and Company. We all hope you got to enjoy time with your families and friends over the Easter and Passover holidays. There was a lot of news this week and, as usual, our brilliant writers were more than willing to offer their views on a huge range of subjects so let’s get started.
- There has been a lot of progress in the Fantasyland construction not the least of which has been the appearance of Beast’s castle. Here is a video of the Fantasyland construction including Beast’s Castle.
- This seems to be a year of relatively significant anniversaries. One of Walt Disney World’s favorite resorts turned 10 years old on April 16th. The Animal Kingdom Lodge celebrated its 10th birthday last week.
- This October will be the 40th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom and you can rely on our friends at Disney to come up with a huge selection of celebratory merchandise. If you read Take 5: Walt Disney World 40th Anniversary you can learn about a lot of the good stuff.
- Here’s kind of a different view of Disneyland Park after dark. There is some intriguing photography to0 be seen in Things That Spin In The Night – A Different Perspective At Disneyland Park.
- For those of you anxiously awaiting the release of POTC 4 (me too) here is a bit of a teaser for you. It’s a short video of the first day of filming of the upcoming hit.
- Listen up Muppets fans (once again, me too) you are in for a treat. Marvel and Disney Publishing Worldwide have teamed up to launch a Muppets Giant Sized comic. I haven’t bought a comic book in over 50 years but I’ll be looking for this one.
- It’s coming up fast and with the reopening of Star Tours, I think all of you Star Wars junkies want to know Who Will Be At Star Wars Weekends 2011? Here is the answer!!
- On Earth Day last year the Walt Disney World Cast Members made 10,000 conservation pledges to lower their carbon footprint. This year they are doubling their commitment to 20,000 pledges. What did you do to lower your carbon footprint?
- Run Disney has introduced another race. They officially introduced the Tinkerbell Half Marathon to be held at the Disneyland Resort.
- In yet another demonstration of their concern for the environment, Disney had a Team of VoluntEARS who teamed up with the City of Orlando to beautify the Carver Shores neighborhood in an early Earth Day project.
- Disney has always shown respect for the members of our military. They did it once again by extending the current special military discounting to September of 2012. Way to go Disney!!
- Disney loves to celebrate anniversaries so here is another one. Pixar will be celebrating its 25th anniversary at Walt Disney World during the May 13-15 weekend. I hope some of you will be there to enjoy it.
- In another display of community concern, Disney gave $120,000 to central Florida groups that help needy children. They may not do everything right but they sure do most things right!!
Now it’s time to give you a sampling of the works of some of our incredible writers. They put in a lot of hard work and to properly appreciate you have to visit the Chip and Company site on a regular basis. These folks are really talented!!
- For those of you who want to get started in Pin Trading Nancy has given us the Beginner’s Guide To Pin Trading. Check it out and you will see that there is nothing to be afraid of.
