Star Wars is definitely taking Hollywood Studios over by storm! With the highly anticipated park expansion on the horizon, more and more Star Wars elements can be found at the park. While there is no official Star Wars dining experience yet, you can still get a small Star Wars taste at the Backlot Express Quick Service restaurant.
This year my son has become obsessed with Star Wars, so now every Disney trip we take, has to revolve around said obsession for him. Just like his parents, he loves Disney food, so on our last family trip we decided to try out the Star Wars offerings at Backlot Express. The long running quick serve venue hasn’t changed in style or decor, but it does include some galactic options on the menu. It has the traditional, burger and chicken nuggets we’ve come to know at Disney quick serves, 2 menu items stand out. The Dark SIde inspired Royal Guard Burger, and the Darth Vader Chicken and Waffles. You know we had to try both!
I had the Darth Vader Chicken and Waffles, because well chicken and waffles! My son and I shared this since it was a pretty ample serving of food. You can get this as a full size meal, or a kids meal. The waffles are perfect, made with the infamous Mickey Waffles batter and griddled with Darth Vader faces. The chicken is the same chicken nuggets you get at most quick serves, still good, but not out of this world. Sadly they no longer have syrup, but there is my favorite condiment honey mustard, so we chowed down with it. The 2 flavors pair very well together. I’m hoping Disney continues to add more unique offerings like this in the quick service restaurants.
My husband, who is the forever more adventurous eater, went for the Royal Guard Burger. This is a brisket topped burger, that was surprisingly REALLY good! It wins as my favorite meal item at Backlot. I was a bit scared at the thought of the black bun, after having seen the Burger King version. Fortunately, this is nothing like it! This is simply a very dark pumpernickel like bun, so not a scary food coloring nightmare. The brisket is melt in your mouth delicious, and just the right amount. The plate comes loaded with lots of pickles, and they help compliment the sweet brisket. The bun also held very well for having all the extra sauce from the brisket! I say this is a galactic winner.
One of the other things we always grab from the quick serves is the Kids’ Mickey Check Meal – Power Pack. It comes packed full of great snacks, including carrots and apples.
There are Star Wars souvenir cups available as well! You can get a Chewbacca or Boba Fett stein, or the BB-8 cup. We got a Chewbacca and a BB-8, well the BB-8 was supposed to be mine, but as you can see… I didn’t get to have it for long.
Lastly are the desserts! Currently you can get a Darth Vader or BB-8 Cupcake. BB-8 is a lemon cupcake, and Darth Vader is chocolate. We got the Darth Vader cupcake, and I have to say it is probably my favorite cupcake on Disney Property right now. Sure it looks like chocolate frosting on top of the rich chocolate cake, but not all is at it seems. The frosting is an incredible whipped peanut butter icing! Darth Vader is also yummy, he is made of a solid piece of dark chocolate.
We really enjoyed getting to have a Star Wars themed meal at Backlot Express, while experiencing The Force at Hollywood Studios. I think it’s a great way to hold you over until Star Wars Land opens. It’s also located right next to Star Tours, so you can fill up after traveling the galaxy on rebel missions!

Were the waffles the same flavor as Mickey Waffles? My favorite!!!
