If you read my review you’d know I absolutely loved Marvel’s “Doctor Strange”. I don’t know anyone who didn’t enjoy it. So, of course I was going to get the Blu-Ray, even if I didn’t get it to review.
Not only is Doctor Strange a must own film, the bonus features are well worth having it.
Here’s what you’ll get:
Featurettes – This can be watched in one stretch as a longer featurette, or in its chapters. Which is how I watched it:
A Strange Transformation – This short film is a behind the scenes over view of every aspect that went into taking the doctor from the pages of the Stan Lee comic to the action packed visually stunning film. Fun tid-bit I found out, Benedict Cumberbatch went directly from a stage production of ‘Hamlet’ to filming in Nepal without even one day off!
Here’s some concept art from the film:
Strange Company – This short focuses on the incredible cast that was put together for “Doctor Strange” Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton and the talent director Scott Derrickson that lead the team.
The Fabric Of Reality – This featurette focuses on everything tangible that made “Doctor Strange” so believable, but so fantastical. The costume design, set and production design, and the real life sets in Nepal and New York.
Here’s some costume art:
Across Time And Space – This is all about the fighting masters that put together the crazy fight scenes – including a dance choreographer who came up with the hand and finger movements that became the magical movements. Also included in this short, the unbelievable visual effects (VFX) team that really made “Doctor Strange” a visual feast!
The Score-cerer Supreme – Michael Giacchino wrote the score and had complete control to tell the story and emotions of the film through it’s music and score.
Button! – Always stay after the credits in a Marvel film, even when it’s the bonus features. Yet again, there’s a button! This is the making of the end tag of “Doctor Strange” featuring Chis Hemsworth as Thor. So much fun!
Marvel Studios Phase 3 Exclusive Look:
This short begins at the 2006 Comic Con where Producer Kevin Feige mentions to the audience Marvel’s plan to tell the Avengers story. It goes on to get more in depth about the Marvel universe and specifically the next handful of films on the docket, leading up to the Infinity Wars. This is a must watch for all Marvel fans.
Team Thor 2:
The God of Thunder is back and living in Australia with his roommate Darryl. The further adventures of Team Thor.
Deleted Scenes:
As most movies go, there are some scenes that end up on the cutting room floor. Either they are cut or time, or it works against the flow of the story. Whatever the reason, they have them here included with the bonus features. There are 5 in the disc and here are some snippets of the deleted scenes.
‘Making Contact’
‘Kaecilius Searches for Answers’
And Finally the Gag Reel!
Man, I love a good gag reel. It just ends up making all these characters more real and relatable. And there’s something so fun watching Benedict Cumberbatch’s thumbs talking to each other.
Doctor Strange is a wonderfully fun and visually fantastical film. The bonus features sure do make the Blu-Ray worth owning. I highly recommend getting out and picking up this Blu-Ray right now to add to your collection.
