Stroke Victim Takes Disney’s Tower Of Terror To Trial

An unprecedented trial involving Walt Disney World has gotten under way in Orange County 12 years after a Pennsylvania man said a theme park ride caused him to have a stroke.

Attorneys for Marvin Cohen, now 80, said riding the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios caused him to have a life-dibilitating stroke in 1998.

The Tower of Terror is an accelerated freefall-type ride that pulls an elevator full of seated riders down from a height of nearly 200 feet.

Disney’s attorneys said the ride is safe, and that Cohen had other health concerns.

Cases involving properly functioning rides have typically been dismissed or settled out of court in the past.

According to a study by the Orlando Sentinel, Cohen’s is the first such case to go to trial.
