Stitch's Great Escape! Signage Removed in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom

It has finally happened! The signage and all notable remnants of Stitch’s Great Escape! at the Magic Kingdom has been completely removed. This is a clear indication of a much anticipated permanent change to this prominent space in Tomorrowland. So far, nothing has replaced the old signage and there doesn’t appear to be any activity to suggest a replacement is underway. Though we are sure the Imagineers have something great in mind and we are excited to see what’s next!

Ever Changing Attraction

Preceded by Flight to the Moon, Mission to Mars, and, most recently, ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, this seasonal attraction and character meet and greet area first opened in 2004. Speculation has been swirling as to what would become of the space for a while.  The attraction was infrequently open. It was also mainly used as a Stitch meet and greet for the past several years. The attraction itself was a fun and comical experience where guests witnessed Experiment 626, or ‘Stitch’, escape imprisonment and whimsical chaos ensued. Coming off the heels of the 2002 animated feature film “Lilo & Stitch” it seemed like a fitting attraction to replace Alien Encounter. Furthermore, this space was set up nicely for guests to actually meet their favorite fugitive alien.

Though the attraction has officially beamed off of planet earth, Experiment 626 can still be seen in the park. As character meet and greets are temporarily unavailable, guests have to catch a glimpse Stitch when he pops up throughout the day. Typically he comes out on the stage nestled between Space Mountain and the Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland. It’s a great opportunity to wave and take a distanced selfie!

With Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor temporarily closed and Stitch’s Great Escape! permanently removed, it’s a little quiet on the walk from Cinderella’s Castle into Tomorrowland. However, we are hopeful that a new and exciting attraction is in the works and we will pay close attention to any progress.  We will keep you updated along the way!
