The 20th Century Studios and the Walt Disney Studios brings “The Call of the Wild“, an American classic novel, to life in an epic tale for audiences. We were lucky enough to hear from some of the people that made this timeless and inspiring film possible.

Harrison Ford, who plays John Thornton, remembers how he read the famous John London novel when he was in high school. Although he was familiar with the story, it didn’t resonate with him in his teens. In taking this role, Ford explained how he always tried to choose roles with value. He feels like he can relate a lot to his character by saying that Thornton is an “edited me”.

Next, we heard from actress Cara Gee. Gee portrays Francoise in the feature. For preparation, Gee said she worked with a cultural adviser and even became a certified scuba diver. She describes Francoise as, “capable, driven, and determined to succeed”. Gee is also of indigenous descent and feels a sense of pride to bring the culture to light in this film.

Last, we heard from director, Chris Sanders. “The Call of the Wild” is Sanders’s live-action directing debut. Sanders comes with a background in animation. He went back to his animating roots and started developing some scenes with story boards. In developing Buck, however, that would be a bit more challenging. They scanned a lot of dogs to get realistic features to create Buck. Until, one day Sanders’s wife found a dog online that was in Kansas that she though was perfect! They came back home with Buckley and his image was used to portray Buck. To capture movements and an eye-line for the actors, fellow actor Terry Notary filled that role.

It’s safe to say, that all that hard work truly payed off!

The Call of the Wild debuts in theaters February 21, 2020.
