First Look At Episode IX 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' With Vanity Fair

First Look At Episode IX ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘ With Vanity Fair. Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) share a twin cover release of Vanity Fair in celebration of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

This dual edition of Vanity Fair features some first looks at the final installment in the “Skywalker Saga.” Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the final piece of the Skywalker Story for Star Wars for the foreseeable future. The film is directed by returning director, J.J. Abrams, who is replacing Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Johnson was reportedly replaced by Lucasfilm with Abrams since the film didn’t hit certain “obvious” plot points set up by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Lucasfilm wanted to be sure those threads were addressed in the new movie, including but not limited to Rey’s parentage.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with [Abrams] but I’ve actually really enjoyed sitting back waiting to get my popcorn opening day and see how the thing turns out. I cannot wait,” Johnson said at CinemaCon.”Like I said, I want to let go of all my expectations, I want to sit back, I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want him to do stuff that I wasn’t expecting him to do and just go along for the ride. For me, that’s why I go to the movies.”

On the Vanity Fair covers, Rey and Kylo Ren are sporting new costumes, with a few noticeable differences from the previous designs for the characters. The most noticeable being the dark grey color of Kylo Ren’s normally pitch black ensemble. Could this mean a change in Kylo Ren from the dark side back to the light? We can’t wait to see how the Skywalker Saga concludes and what fate is in store for our favorite characters, new and old.

Photographer, Annie Leibovitz, got to capture some amazing photos while on the set of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker that showcase some of our favorite characters and some new faces to the story. Take a look at the collection of photos she compiled while on set.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker has a star studded cast including: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell.

The photos beg a lot of questions such as, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) appearing….well, alive when we previously thought him to be dead after the ending of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, What roles will the new characters play in just one film and how will they enrich the story?, and What function will the now confirmed Knights of Ren play? Looks like we will have to wait for the films premiere before we truly know the answers to these curious questions.

The film is set to premiere December 20, 2019 and will be followed with a short hiatus of Star Wars films until the release of a new Star Wars Trilogy by Game of Thrones writers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss in 2021.

  2. They probably want us to think Kylo Ren is moving away from the dark side, but something is telling me that isn’t the case & we are in for a much bigger surprise. I’m so pumped for the new Star Wars movie, but also happy they will be taking a break after this. #DisneyVacayGiveaway

  3. I’m going to miss Carrie Fisher, but I’m excited to see the next movie. I was lucky enough to meet Adam Driver and have a Q&A with him, and he’s completely different from his Kylo Ren character. His military training contributed to his character, I’m sure of it. #DisneyVacayGiveaway
