'Star Wars: Rogue Squadron' Still in Development Despite Rumors of Cancellation

Patty Jenkins is one of the busiest female directors and writers in Hollywood and rumors began swirling weeks ago that Lucasfilm was dropping her upcoming film Star Wars: Rogue Squadron due to scheduling conflicts. Now, Deadline has reported that Jenkins has stepped away from the Cleopatra film starring Gal Gadot, giving directorial duties to Kari Skogland, so she can move her focus to Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Wonder Woman 3. Deadline shared, “Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects: Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.”

Though Star Wars: Rogue Squadron still remains off the Lucasfilm production schedule, Jenkins is thrilled by the project and promises to deliver “the best fighter pilot movie of all time” for a very special reason: Her Father. “I love to move fast and speed of any kind,” Jenkins shared when the film was first announced. “I think that that’s because I grew up the daughter of a great fighter pilot and every day I would wake up and go outside and look up and see my father and his squadron taking off in their F4s, whirring across the sky, and it was the most thrilling thing I still have experienced in my entire life. So when he lost his life in service to this country, it ignited a desire in me to turn all of that tragedy and thrill into one day making the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time.”
