It is a sad day for Disney and Star Wars fans today. Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60.

Carrie Fisher is a Hollywood legend that became a galactic Princess when she starred in Star Wars. We have all come to know and love her as Princess Leia. She later became an acclaimed author and screenwriter, as well. She suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles this past Friday and today she has died.

Fisher’s death was confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement released by family spokesperson Simon Halls on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement read. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
