A St. Petersburg boy who died after colliding with a Walt Disney World bus last April was “solely responsbile” for the crash, according to a final Florida Highway report released today.
Investigators concluded 9-year-old Chase Brubaker’s bicycle had a flat rear tire and an underinflated front tire, both of which could have contributed to the April 1 crash.
Brubaker was biking in the same direction of the bus as he road along a path near the Fort Wildness Resort. Investigators said he drove into the southbound lane, striking the side of the bus. After the initial collison, he fell off his bike and was run over by the bus’s rear right tire.
FHP says bus driver David Rich was not at fault, and no charges will be filed.
Brubaker was riding with an 11-year-old girl at the time. She was not injured. Both were wearing helmets.
FHP says its investigation is complete.
