The Mandalorian

The Star Wars saga has been on an interesting journey since Disney acquired the franchise. What was already a massive galaxy far, far away grew even more so with new movies and a themed land at Disney Parks. The movies have given us a new trilogy, which will wrap up in December with the release of “The Rise of Skywalker.” We may not see a new Star Wars film for a while, but Disney+ has opened the door for new stories to be told through television. “The Mandalorian” is a great first step for the future of Star Wars taking its stories off the silver screen and into our homes.

The Mandalorian

The launch day of Disney+ gave us the first episode of “The Mandalorian.” The new series takes us into some interesting territory for the timeline of the Star Wars universe. It’s set three years after the end of “Return of the Jedi.” So it’s after the defeat of the Empire and before we see the rise of the First Order. The titular character is quickly introduced and displays his prowess as a bounty hunter. Actor Pedro Pascal plays the Mandalorian bounty hunter Dyn Jarren. His character is off to a good start between the action and intrigue teased by this mysterious bounty hunter.

The story so far has me hooked since the first episode set the stage for a bigger story arc to unfold. We are seeing more of what life is like among bounty hunters in Star Wars. It’s a rich territory to explore since fans have only seen snippets of bounty hunter lore in the movies. It’s also interesting to see how the galaxy is changing in the years after “Return of the Jedi.”

Jon Favreau knocked this episode out of the park and introduced us to a colorful new cast of characters. Both Carl Weathers and Nick Nolte gave stellar performances. The bounty hunter droid IG-11, who is voiced by Taika Waititi, stole the scenes he was in with his amusing dialogue. The ending of the first episode left me wanting more and I was happy with how “The Mandalorian” surpassed my expectations.

“I Have Spoken”

We have only seen a taste of what’s to come with this first episode. So far I’ve been blown away by how promising this new series is for Star Wars. I’m eager to see the second episode when it lands on Disney+ this Friday. Tell us your thoughts as “The Mandalorian” series continues!
