Conservation and environmentalism. These two concepts have always been important to Disney, and have always been evident throughout the companies actions- a tradition began by Walt Disney himself. Recently it seems they have upped their commitment to these practices with several new measures designed to do their part to protect the environment.
Not long ago, Disney began work on a brand new solar facility. When completed this will be the largest such facility on Disney property, coming in at an impressive 270-acres. The 50-megawatt solar facility will, on average, provide enough solar energy to power two entire theme parks with clean, renewable energy. The first of 5,000 total panels have been installed and the project is estimated to be completed in just a few short months.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, special care is being taken to make the facility safe for endangered species of butterflies, insects, and bees. Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA who are in charge if the project are working closely with Disney’s Animal, Science, and Environment and Horticulture teams to ensure the site is pollinator friendly.
The New York Times recently did a piece on the facility and mentioned that Disney is a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship and is blazing a trail for other countries worldwide with its shining example.
