It looks like Sister Act 3 will really be a Sister Act remake with beloved star Whoopi Goldberg only having a cameo appearance. Despite Goldberg wanting to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier, it looks like Disney has decided to go in a different direction.
In an interview Goldberg was quick to express her disappointment. “We’ve been all over Disney begging. They’ve decided that they’re going to go in a different direction with Sister Act. So it won’t be Sister Act 3 it will be a brand new rendition of Sister Act, and I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”
While Disney has been talking about a third Sister Act movie for years now, it seems like fans won’t get their wish of having the story pick up where 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit left off.
Instead film-goers will get to see a new nun don the habit. If it will take place in the same “universe” as the original two movies is yet to be seen. This means that casting is a wild card right now and Disney could be going many different ways with this new story.
