I was recently invited out to the Swan and Dolphin to review Shula’s Steakhouse. Shula’s Steakhouse came to be when Don Shula stated that he couldn’t find a steak that was good enough for him. Shula set out to open a restaurant that matched his season as coach of the 1972 Miami Dolphins- Perfect! Well after reviewing this steakhouse I can say that Shula did what he wanted to. This place is amazing! The  atmosphere of Shula’s combines an elegant steakhouse with a refined sports bar, giving it a beautiful yet relaxing feel to it. The menu which was once printed on a football and signed by the coach is still brought to your table as a reflection of tradition and how amazing this restaurant really is.

Appetizers

I had a sampling for my appetizer. I had seared Ahi Tuna with a cracked peppercorn crust, blackened sea scallops, BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp and jumbo lump crab cakes. The tuna was great. I am not a huge fish person especially when it is not cooked, however this tuna was light, spicy and quite yummy. The scallop was very tender and melted in my mouth like it should. The BBQ bacon shrimp was outstanding. Great mix of amazing quality shrimp, crispy bacon and one of the best BBQ sauces that I have had in a long time. The jumbo crab cake was my favorite appetizer of all. This crab cake was done perfectly. The main focus was the crab which is the way crab cakes should be! The sauce went great with this appetizer as well!

Starters

Lobster Bisque in my opinion was the best bisque that I have ever had. I could drink a gallon of that stuff, and still have room to want to take some home! The taste, quality and the fact that it had an excess of claw meat really did it for me! As I am sitting here writing this post all I want to do is run back and get some more! The Wedge salad was very good with crisp salad, tangy blue cheese dressing and some fresh tomatoes, onion and bacon. Overall the salad was good, but I will be looking for more soup next time I come in!

Main Course

Where do I start? Maybe by telling you that hands down this was the BEST steak I have ever had the pleasure of eating! I got the 24 once Porterhouse steak which has two of the best cuts of meat on the same plate, Strip and filet. I was intimidated by the size of this steak at first but after the first bite I knew I would want more. Luckily there is a 48 ounce on the menu which I will try to tackle on my next visit, sorry for the pun! I paired my steak with some grilled asparagus and crab mac and cheese. The asparagus was delicious and done just right on the grill, and the mac and cheese had made my list of the best side that I have ever had! I could not get enough of this stuff! It was unlike any mac and cheese I have ever had before, but it was so good. Again, I want to run down to the restaurant and get as much of the mac and cheese my car can hold!

Dessert

When they asked me if I wanted to order a dessert when I sat down I knew I had to order something. I was convinced that the Molten Chocolate Lava cake was my best bet and so I decided to try it. I asked why I had to order so early and they told me it was because they cook the desserts to order. That’s right, the desserts are cooked fresh when you order it. This dessert with a great fudge middle running out and mixed with some great vanilla ice cream finished off the best meal in Orlando!

Wait Staff

The wait staff was amazing. I was taken care of by Perry, who quickly became a friend not just my waiter. He was funny, attentive, and made me feel like I was eating at home with friends and not in a restaurant. Marc the general manager went out of his way to make sure that I was taken care of, and that everything was done to perfection. Sometimes when you review resturants you feel like they go above and beyond with you because your doing a review, however Marc was not this guy. I saw him going out of his way multiple times that night to make sure everyone was having a great time!

Overall Review

Today a lot of places want to go above and beyond with service, food, taste, and quality. Shula’s does one thing and they do it great. That one thing is everything! I cannot say anything more about this place. The food was simple yet delicious, the service was out of this world, the atmosphere was amazing, drinks were yummy, and I felt like I was at home here. I have to say without any reservations that Shula’s Steakhouse at the Swan and Dolphin is not only my favorite steakhouse in Orlando, but it is my favorite restaurant period! I will be back soon for my birthday and I cannot wait! Big thank you again to Marc and Perry for an amazing time with great drinks, amazing food, and the best service out there! If you don’t go to Shula’s, then your missing out! Tell Marc Jason from Chip and Company sent you and ask for Perry by name to be your server!
