Shrek 5 With Original Cast Teased By Illumination CEO

Shrek 5: Coming soon to a theater near you?

Fans of the big green Ogre from the land of Duloc: another movie may be coming your way. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri recently teased a Shrek sequel during an interview with Variety.

Meledandri noted the sequel would ideally include the original voice cast and would serve as a re-boot of the franchise. He noted that while a new movie would include “work to build story elements and new characters that take you to brand new places,” the original cast is a “huge part of” expanding the Shrek world.

While no specific timeline for Shrek 5 was discussed, it appears the initial groundwork for the movie is well underway. “We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,” Meledandri stated.

Donkey voice actor Eddie Murphy is enthusiastically on board, previously stating “If [DreamWorks] ever came with another ‘Shrek,’ I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey. They did ‘Puss in Boots’ movies. I was like, ‘They should have done a Donkey movie.’ Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”
