Sharkboy and Lavagirl Will Return as Parents in a New Netflix Original Movie. You would be hard pressed to find a 90’s and early 00’s kid who isn’t at least familiar with Sharkboy and Lavagirl. The film bombed at the box office, but quickly became a favorite among kids in 2005 and beyond for its wacky and zangy storylines, ever evolving landscapes and backdrops, and the idea that anyone can be a superhero, even if they don’t have super powers.
Fans of the film will be excited to hear that Sharkboy and Lavagirl are set to return in an all new Netflix original film, but this time they are parents! The film is being called, We Can Be Heroes, and will follow 11 superhero children who’s parents have been abducted and are in need of rescue. One of the children featured in the film will be Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s daughter who is still learning how to use her powers that she has inherited from both her mother and father.
Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, The Mandalorian) is set to return as director for the sequel, with Taylor Dooley reprising her role as Lavagirl. It is currently unknown if Taylor Lautner will return as Sharkboy, but we hope so! Joining Dooley in the cast is Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Baywatch) and Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) in mysterious roles. Reportedly Pascal’s role will an “Antonio Banderas-esk role” in the film. Neither Netflix or Rodriquez have yet to share the release date for We Can Be Heroes.
