Disney Agrees to Review DAS Changes After Shareholder Proposal Reversal
Big accessibility news just dropped from The Walt Disney Company, as Disney Parks has officially agreed to review the impact of its controversial Disability Access System changes after reversing course on a shareholder proposal. A letter sent to shareholders on January 19 confirms Disney has withdrawn its previous request to block the proposal and will now include it in materials for the 2026 annual shareholder meeting. That marks a notable shift after Disney initially argued the request was misleading, tied to ordinary business operations, and already implemented.

The proposal, submitted by disabled shareholder Erik G. Paul in December 2025, asks Disney to commission an independent third party to evaluate its accessibility and disability inclusion practices. The review would assess legal, financial, and reputational risks, compare Disney’s policies to international accessibility standards and competitors, and identify opportunities for improvement. It also calls for a public summary of findings and an internal briefing to the Board to ensure transparency and accountability.

Disney had previously sought approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission to exclude the proposal from its proxy materials, but that request has now been formally withdrawn. While this does not automatically change the DAS rules currently in place, it signals that Disney will be taking a closer look at how the updates are affecting disabled guests and how its policies align with broader accessibility expectations across the industry.
