Monsters Are Moving In: More Scaffolding Rises at Former MuppetVision Theater in Hollywood Studios

The transformation from Muppets Courtyard to full blown Monstropolis is picking up steam at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and now even more scaffolding is wrapping around the former MuppetVision 3D theater. The brick facade that once framed Kermit and friends has been steadily stripped away over the past month as crews prep the building for its new monster makeover. According to the latest aerial shots shared by bioreconstruction, scaffolding now stretches higher and wider across the front of the structure and around the clock tower, signaling that some big visual changes are on the way.

This theater will eventually become “The Glob,” if concept art is any indication, serving as a central icon for the new Monsters, Inc. inspired land. While Disney has not yet revealed what show will live inside the reimagined space, the removal of brickwork and the addition of expanded scaffolding suggest a new marquee and themed details could debut sooner rather than later. When you compare the old Muppet*Vision 3D facade to the colorful Monstropolis concept art, it is clear this corner of the park is about to look scream worthy in the best way.

Just across the way, scaffolding is also surrounding the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush restroom building. The structure, along with PizzeRizzo, will remain operational but receive a full thematic refresh to match the monster energy moving into the area. The scaffolding now wraps around the front and side of the building, with a noticeable tower rising near the patio. Change is definitely in the air, and it smells like fresh paint and a little bit of monster fur.

With construction visibly accelerating, Monstropolis is clawing its way into reality one beam at a time. If this pace continues, we may soon see the first hints of signage and theming that truly bring the city of scares to life.
