The Santa Clause Trilogy Bluray Review

Christmas is just around the corner and I don’t know about you, but that makes me SO happy!  I was just at Disney World last week and I saw the beginnings of the holiday season all over the World!  Cranes stretched toward the sky over Cinderella Castle as work crews began transforming this beloved park landmark into a Christmas dream, gift shops are littered with the touches of Christmas, and the famous Osborne Family lights have begun to grow wild like ivy along the buildings and streets of America in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Yep, crank up the Christmas tunes and break out your festive wear!  Christmas time is just about here!  That’s why I was so excited to see one of the first offerings of Christmas movies waiting for me to review.  Today I am bringing you my review for the Santa Clause Trilogy on Blu-ray available to own on October 16th, 2012.  To help keep things organized, I’m going to be breaking it down by movie! Ready? Set? Jingle!!!!!

The Santa Clause

Synopsis:

Follow Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) on his journey to become Santa.  After a mishap with the former Santa ropes Calvin into a clause…the Santa Clause that is.  Watch with wonder as the transformation to become Santa happens.  The North Pole comes to life in this classic Christmas story!  The Blu-ray quality of this film does add a new level of enjoyment.

Milk and Cookies (Special Features):

“So You Wanna Be An Elf?” Featurette

Across all the  2 of the movies in the trilogy, the special features are shot from the perspective of the elves.  While I think this is cute for a few features, it kind of got old after a while.  That said, I get that these movies are magical and filled with Christmas wonder, so I know all the parents with little ones will enjoy that Santa’s identity is protected throughout the bonus features.  This special feature is hosted by Bernard, the head elf.

Making Santa Snacks With Wolfgang

There is an entire series of cooking with Wolfgang and the elves on this disc.  I liked this feature and found that it appeals to both adults and kids.  Included in the recipes is the infamous cocoa from the film, aptly named Santa’s Favorite Cocoa.  I really enjoyed this inspired feature!  I think a themed movie night and dinner is in order!

“The Night Before Christmas” Short

My FAVORITE of the features is the Night Before Christmas short.  This is one of Walt’s Silly Symphonies and it reminds me of being a kid.  You know that feeling you get when you have one of those moments where you feel the spirit of Christmas?  Yeah, here on an average October day, I had that moment at the hands of this short!

The Santa Clause 2

Synopsis:

Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) aka Santa Claus faces some hard times as his son Charlie ends up on the naughty list.  Santa makes a trip back to help his son when he finds another challenge awaits him; a challenge that could twist the fate of Santa as the world knows it.  Apparently, there is not only a Santa Clause, but there is also a Mrs. Clause.  Santa has to find a wife before Christmas eve or face losing his role as Santa forever.  Join Santa on his journey to set things straight and go from single to settled down!  This is probably my favorite movies of the trilogy!  I hope you’ll enjoy this holiday story too!

Stocking Stuffer (Special Features):

“Inside the North Pole With Curtis” – Making of Featurette

Much like the “So You Wanna Be An Elf?” featurette on the first movie, this featurette is hosted by Curtis the elf.  All of the features on this movie are shot assuming that the elves are featured in the movie (in other words, Curtis is a real elf playing the role of…well…himself).  Hopefully this makes sense!  Curtis gives a tour of the “real” North Pole making mention of the toys he worked on, locations cameras weren’t given access to, and even a stop by makeup to add sparkle to his “elfish” features.  As I mentioned earlier in this review, I think this would definitely appeal to the young audience, but for me, after one feature, I would rather have cool facts and production information than a fictional interview.  But hey, if you are going to do that kind of thing, where better to do this than in a children’s Christmas movie…right?

“True Confessions of the Legendary Figures”-Interview With Tooth Fairy, Mother Nature, Father Time, and Easter Bunny

Again, character interview with the figures  from the movies.  It’s cute and worth a watch.  This one’s got some humor aimed at the older audience and features the acting brilliance of Kevin Pallack, Aisha Tyler, Art LaFleur, and Jay Thomas who did  a wonderful job in my book portraying these legendary figures!

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

Synopsis:

Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is living the jolly life as Santa.  He’s married with a little one on the way, when life in the North Pole catches up with him.  Santa discovers the “escape clause”, a clause which would let him out of his duties as Santa.  After some struggle with maintaining his family life and being Santa, Calvin decides that he doesn’t need the escape clause.  Meanwhile, Jack Frost (Martin Short) discovers this clause too and decides to trick Santa into saying the magic words so that he can take the role of Santa.  What will happen to the North Pole if it is left in Jack Frost’s hands?  Come along on this holiday favorite to save the North Pole and Santa as we know and love them!

Boxes and Bows (Special Features):

The New Comedians: On the Set with Tim and Marty

I really love Tim Allen and Martin Short so I really enjoyed this behind the scenes look at how they complement one another on and off-screen.  I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see the brilliance that is Martin Short and Tim Allen!

Jack Frost and Mrs. Claus: A Very Different Look

Have you ever wondered why certain characters look the way they do?  How did their character come to life through makeup and wardrobe?  I love looking into the thought process of the director, costume designers, and makeup artist.  This special feature takes a look at how Jack Frost and Mrs. Claus were transformed through tests with hair, makeup, and wardrobe.  I really enjoyed this special feature!
