DVD Review: Waking Sleeping Beauty

DVD Review: Waking Sleeping Beauty

I am by no means a huge Disney Nerd like George from Imaginerding is. He takes being a Disney Deek to a whole new level. But this past holiday weekend I decided to sit down and watch the Waking Sleeping Beauty Documentary.

I have heard from several other Disney Bloggers how this was a great movie but I was always worried it would be to much for me. Intimidation aside I grabbed some popcorn and popped this movie into the DVD player.

Having heard many of the names before like  Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy E. Disney, John Lasseter and others over the years it was nice to be able to see them in a less official and very entertaining light.

I love how the whole movie has a home movie type feel to it. You feel like your behind the scenes getting all the dirt, gossip, and news at Disney Animation. It truly is a revealing look into the period where Disney could do no wrong. It was alot of fun to see animators like Tim Burton and John Lasseter before they were household names like they are today.

After watching this Documentary I now know alot more about Disney than I did going in. Waking Sleeping Beauty really gives you insights into Disney history and gives you a solid understanding of how we got our beloved Disney tales like The Little Mermain, Beauty and the Beast, and my daughters favorite Oliver and Company. (just to name a few)

I don’ like to spoil movies but I highly recommend this to anyone who is a Disney Enthusiast! I have seen it once already and will be checking it out again very soon because there is just so much history to just take in one sitting.

  1. Oh! My dad loves everything Disney and has pretty much all of the movies. This would be a great idea for him! Thanks for sharing!
