Review: Villain Con Minion Blast at Universal Orlando. Universal Studios Orlando opened their newest attraction yesterday for technical rehearsals that guests can experience throughout the day. We got the opportunity to check out Villian-Con Minion Blast about an hour prior to park guests being allowed to, and here is our review. We will discuss what Universal has to say about the stand-up moving walkway blaster attraction, then we will give you our thoughts.
Located at the entrance to Minion Land, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast offers a unique blaster game experience that combines immersive sets, interactive technology, custom animation, and an original storyline. As guests step into Villain-Con, the largest convention for villains worldwide, they’ll embark on a challenge to prove their worthiness as the newest member of the notorious supervillain group, the Vicious 6.

Equipped with an “E-Liminator X” blaster, guests will compete against friends, loved ones, and fellow visitors to cause as much mayhem and destruction as possible. Along the way, they’ll encounter each member of the Vicious 6 in themed settings inspired by their characters, voiced by the original cast from the hit film, “Minions: Rise of Gru.” From Belle Bottom’s groovy disco to Stronghold’s museum filled with fragile art, the blaster game promises non-stop excitement.

Connected Gameplay and Digital Experience
Villain-Con Minion Blast introduces a connected gameplay experience through The Official Universal Orlando Resort App. By syncing their blaster to the app, guests can take their game to the next level, track their scores, embark on extraordinary missions within the attraction, unlock evil perks, and earn digital collectibles. The more guests play and the higher the score, the more rewards and bragging rights they’ll make. This digital integration enhances the in-park experience, connecting guests to their Universal Guest Account and unlocking additional benefits.
That is a lot, but trust me, we can shorten that down to a few words. Stand up, don’t move because the walkway will move you, grab a blaster and shoot stuff! Get a high Score, and connect it to the app for better stuff. The whole time you will have the Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-nana thing stuck in your head.
Standing up may not be our favorite thing when enjoying our time in the parks and we had such a weird sensation our first two times riding. A little context helps, I am sure. So getting into Universal from the parking garages there are the moving walkways, and most times we kinda power walk them. So when we got onto a moving walkway for Villain-Con Minion Blast, we wanted to keep taking steps forward, when you are supposed to stay on your dot placed on the walkway.
With that one small issue, the rest of the attraction is fantastic and fun. I know we always compare Universal to Disney, so let us do that one more time. Think of Buzz Lightyear’s ride in the Magic Kingdom. You hold a blaster and shoot targets. Now, think bigger and more interactive. With 4k screens, and a much better blaster, and feedback from the blaster.
I found that we actually cared about the score. Which is displayed on the blaster itself. Also, at the end of the ride, it shows up on the final screens where everyone can see it! Furthermore, when headed out of the ride there is a top 30 of the day and we wanted to see our name listed.
Overall, your personal enjoyment of Villain-Con Minion Blast will come down to a few things. Do you like the little yellow guys from the Despicable Me franchise? Do you enjoy blaster-type games? Do you play first-person shooter games? Do you mind standing at an attraction?
