In the heart of International Drive lies Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Ripley’s houses the odd, weird, and downright gross things that are either found or can be done by the human body. This museum has artifacts, replicas, and actual pieces of the weird and supernatural. Upon entering you encounter a shrine for fertility that boast a claim that if you want a baby to touch the shrine (proceed to touch at your own risk). Once inside you find many things from the weird such as an actual shrunken head (not a Trader Sam special), or Wall-E and Thor made up of scrap metal and car parts.
You also encounter animals that had birth defects and other oddities that were on display from PT Barnum such as a two headed calf and a goat with 6 legs. Other things I thought were interesting were an actual piece of the Berlin Wall, a car made up of musical instruments you can play, as well as an area to show your talents to “roll your tongue”. Some other things this museum has to offer are:
- Statues of the World’s Tallest Man, Lizard Man, and other people who are not your ordinary people you see every day.
- Many hands on displays and videos to learn about what your seeing and the culture that it comes from.
- Optical illusions such as a pool table where the ball rolls up hill, or a tunnel that spins around you and throws off your sense of balance.
This museum is open 365 days a year. The posted times for Ripley’s is 9am-Midnight. They let the last group of people in 1 hour prior to closing so keep that in mind when making arrangements to go. The ticket prices are $19.99 for adults, and $12.99 for kids up to 12. Children 3 and under and free. I will give you this insight when planning to go. Do not pay for this attraction at the door. Ripley’s offers online discounts and I have seen multiple coupons and discounts going around the Orlando area. Some times, Ripley’s offers a buy one, get one free coupon so keep your eyes open for a great savings. It took me a little over an hour to do this attraction so also keep that in mind when deciding if this attraction is right for you.
Overall thoughts on this attraction
I like the odd things in the world, and this place has it. I will say that some things in this museum I have seen before in other Ripley’s museums around. I don’t think a family of 4 would be happy if they paid the regular admission cost, however with coupons and multiple other discounts that are offered this is fun for a lot of people. At the end of the day, do your research. Look and see what they have, see if there are any special discounts available and then make the decision if Ripley’s is right for you and your family. I had a great time here looking at the oddities and seeing the fun videos. My only complaint? I wish it was larger!
