Restaurant Marrakesh Sign Taken Down From EPCOT

Restaurant Marrakesh Sign Removed at EPCOT After Five Years of Closure

It looks like another piece of EPCOT history has quietly slipped away. The iconic Restaurant Marrakesh sign at the Morocco pavilion has officially been stripped of its lettering, marking the latest chapter in the long-dormant dining location’s story.

The round, golden-framed sign still hangs above the entrance archway at the back of the pavilion, but its distinctive “Restaurant Marrakesh” lettering and red emblem have been removed. Sharp-eyed guests will now notice the faded silhouettes of the letters and rivets left behind as the only reminder of what once was.

Restaurant Marrakesh originally closed along with the rest of Walt Disney World in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and never reopened. While Spice Road Table was refreshed and remains a functioning part of the pavilion, Marrakesh has sat shuttered. Disney formally took over operations of the Morocco pavilion in October 2020 after Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant, LLC faced financial difficulties, including a PPP loan filing and UCC Financing Statement against them.

Since then, the Marrakesh space has been used for temporary offerings, such as a seating area, the Florida Blue lounge, and even as a Passholder lounge, but Disney has never announced long-term plans for the location. Curiously, the official Restaurant Marrakesh webpage remains live, though its menus were removed back in 2021.
