Do you know the best way to ruin a fantastic day at the Magic Kingdom? Eat a full breakfast at one of the Disney World Table Service Restaurants and then get on the teacups. Instant Disaster.
Being a person with a serious motion sickness problem, I am acutely aware of the rides that will immediately turn me green. In fact, before I hit any theme park I pop a few non-drowsy Dramamines just to take the edge off for the day. It has gotten worse as I get older and there are some rides that I simply cannot tolerate at all. My poor son has inherited my weak constitution, so at least I have company while I wait!
Be smart, gang. If you are eating a huge meal…avoid those teacups. You may also want to ditch Space Mountain for a little while and reconsider Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom. This isn’t rocket science. If it doesn’t bother you, that’s great! BUT, don’t forget the little tummies. A character meal is the best thing going, but please don’t go immediately to the carousel or Dumbo if your babies get woozy on a tire swing. It just isn’t worth ruining the rest of the day with a very stinky outfit and exhausted kid.
Some rides you MAY want to avoid after a big meal if you or anyone in your family gets a little queasy.
At the Magic Kingdom:
- Mad Tea Party
- Space Mountain
- Prince Charming Regal Carousel
- Dumbo
- Astro Orbiter
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
At Epcot:
- Mission Space (any ride that has barf bags available speaks for itself)
- Soarin’ – I can do this one, but it knocks some people for a loop
- Test Track
At Animal Kingdom:
- Primeval Whirl
- Expedition Everest – it goes backwards…that’s a doozie for me.
- Dinosaur
- Kilimanjaro Safari
- Triceratops Spin
- Star Tours – I cannot do ANY simulator rides.
- Rock N’ Rollercoaster
- Tower of Terror
- Toy Story Midway Mania
A little bit of common sense goes a long way. Don’t eat a huge meal and then do a crazy ride. It just isn’t worth it. If you are prone to any sort of motion sickness, bring a can of Altoids with you. For some people, sucking on a peppermint can really help that queasy feeling if you are going on a questionable ride. There are PLENTY of rides at Disney that will not make you feel crummy. As tempting as it may be to “try it one more time”…resist. It’s just not worth sitting out the rest of the day with a Pepsi and multiple peppermints! Trust me, I know!

Expedition Everest did it for me after eating a QS meal from Yak & Yeti. I forgot it went upside down while backwards.
If you have inner ear problems as well, avoid the spinning Mission Space. I was sick the rest of the day, feeling dizzy etc.
