Regal Announces ‘Back to the Beginning’ Film Series
This January, Regal is inviting moviegoers to hit the reset button with its newly announced Back to the Beginning film series. Spanning all 31 days of the month, the curated program celebrates “fresh starts” by bringing origin stories, famous franchise firsts, and directorial debuts back to the big screen.
The series is designed to showcase the foundational moments of cinema’s most beloved characters and the early creative sparks of world-renowned filmmakers.

“Repertory films in the Back to the Beginning program introduce iconic characters from widely popular movie franchises and represent the early creative vision of some internationally acclaimed filmmakers,” said Brooks LeBoeuf, Senior Vice President of US Content at Regal.

Five Weeks of Cinematic Origins
The program is organized into five distinct weekly themes, ensuring there is something for every type of film fan.

The week also features the first adventures of the Ghostbusters, the original Mission: Impossible, and Conan the Barbarian.
Week Two: There and Back Again (Jan 8 – 14) The second week travels through fantastical realms. It includes the entire Hobbit trilogy (An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies), alongside Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the timeless The Wizard of Oz, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and the prequel classic Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Week Three: From the Director’s Chair – Day One (Jan 15 – 21) This week highlights the “Day One” visions of acclaimed directors. Highlights include Rian Johnson’s Brick, Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Steven Spielberg’s The Sugarland Express, Jordan Peele’s Get Out, and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird.
Notably, Christopher Nolan’s first feature, Following (1998), returns to the big screen. Nolan expressed his gratitude for the rerelease, stating, “Following was my first opportunity as an independent filmmaker to reach an audience. My gratitude goes to the fans who continually show up to experience independent films on the big screen.”
Week Four: Worlds in Chaos (Jan 22 – 28) The focus shifts to epic stakes and dystopian futures. This lineup features Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the original Gladiator, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021), and the groundbreaking sci-fi of The Matrix. Rounding out the week are A Quiet Place, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and Blade Runner: The Final Cut.
