Randy Newman, a celebrated songwriter and composer, began his musical journey as a teenager, releasing his self-titled debut album in 1968. Over the years, he established himself as a prolific solo artist and a renowned film composer.

Newman’s extensive Disney credits include the entire “Toy Story” franchise, “Monsters, Inc.” and “Monsters University,” “Cars” and “Cars 3,” “A Bug’s Life,” “The Princess and the Frog,” and “James and the Giant Peach.” His contributions to these films earned him multiple Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song and Best Musical or Comedy Score. Notably, he won Best Original Song for “If I Didn’t Have You” from “Monsters, Inc.” and “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3,” which he also performed.

In addition to his Academy Awards, Randy Newman has also been honored with three Primetime Emmy Awards and seven Grammy Awards. His contributions to the entertainment industry were recognized with a Disney Legend award in 2007, and he was further honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2010. His legacy was solidified with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

One of Randy Newman’s most beloved Disney compositions is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the first “Toy Story” film, which he also performed. His other memorable Disney songs include “Our Town” from “Cars,” “When She Loved Me” from “Toy Story 2,” and “Almost There” from “The Princess and the Frog.”

In addition to his musical contributions, Newman made a cameo appearance in “The Princess and the Frog” as “Cousin Randy,” a firefly visually modeled after himself. His extensive film scoring credits also include “Marriage Story,” “Seabiscuit,” “Pleasantville,” “Parenthood,” and “Meet the Parents.”

“Randy Newman is a unique and brilliant songwriter, composer, and performer whose body of work has proven him to be an artist for the ages. There is absolutely no one like him, and his influence on the music world cannot be overstated. We couldn’t be more proud and excited to acquire Randy’s catalog of beautiful, witty, and sharply observational songs,” said Dan McCarroll, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Litmus Music.

Litmus Music, a company focused on acquiring and managing music rights, was founded in 2022 by McCarroll and Forsyth. Backed by the Carlyle Group, Litmus Music has quickly become a prominent player in the music industry.
