There’s a place to eat and drink at Downtown Disney Orlando that is also a feast for the eyes! The Lava Lounge at Rainforest Cafe is now open! Next time you visit Rainforest Cafe without a reservation, you can head just to the left of the main entrance and just passed the crocodile (more about him later!) to find this welcome sight. If there is a table open – you can just seat yourself immediately – no reservation required. The Lava Lounge has the full Rainforest Cafe Menu including all the fun beverages like the Monggose Mai Tai and the Cheeta Rita. A cool thing to note: there are also some bonus menu items that are unique only to the Lava Lounge. The Volcanic Sliders, and Tectonic Tacos have been popular so far. If you like your brownies with hot fudge and ice cream on top, don’t forget to order Sparkling Volcano for Dessert!
Speaking of volcanoes, the Lava Lounge comes complete with one of those too. Volcanic “eruptions” take place after dark, every half hour or so. The volcano puts on a mighty display in sync with a light and sound show. You can see a video of the spectacle here. We are in Disney after all, so there is also an animatronic crocodile found near the entrance to the Lava Lounge. Not just your average sedentary lounge lizard…this guy lurches forward, growls and opens his mouth every few minutes. It makes for a great photo opportunity! The kids and adults around me were really delighted by this element.
The lounge has a beautiful waterfront view that anyone can enjoy. This place is also family friendly, so if the kids are a little frightened of the thunderstorm and squawking animals inside Rainforrest Cafe – this might be a great option. They still have the stationary exotic animals added to the decor here, which always make for great conversation pieces. The setting is a friendly laid-back bar that feels casual and welcoming, and it is not uncommon to see families with kids inside. The lounge isn’t huge, but it is still a nice size so that you feel cozy and comfortable.
Between the awesome waterfront view, moving crocodile, and erupting volcano, the Lava Lounge is almost like an attraction in itself. Undoubtedly added in anticipation of Disney Springs – this is an exciting beginning of all the fun Disney has in store for us in the future. Do you think you will be giving the Lava Lounge a try?
