Rachel Zegler is loving her newfound fame with the premiere of West Side Story and was recently announced as the new Snow White for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Zegler didn’t share much about her role, but did say that Disney is making this story “stronger” and won’t just “exist solely for a prince,” stating:

“There’s not much I can say about it besides the fact that Snow White has constantly been criticized,” Zegler said. “Even though she’s the original Disney princess and we love her so much, [she’s been] criticized for existing solely for a prince, existing solely to be rescued.” Rachel continued, “And I think that our director, Marc Webb, and everyone who’s working on this film has really taken her narrative and turned it into something that’s a lot stronger and I’m very, very excited to be able to bring that to life.“

Director Marc Webb spoke of Rachel’s casting in a statement, sharing: “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale.”
The film currently stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, with Marc Webb directing and Marc Platt producing. Production is expected to start in 2022. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for updates and all things Disney!
