Production for 'Hocus Pocus 2' Continues, Set for Release on Disney+

Production for ‘Hocus Pocus 2‘ Continues, Set for Release on Disney+. The Sanderson Sisters are BACK! At least, back in production that is. Rumors have swirled for years that a Hocus Pocus sequel is on the way, but it appears this time, there is some merit to the rumors.

When rumors really began to swirl in 2014 it was a common question asked of the original cast. “Would you return for Hocus Pocus 2?” For Bette Midler (Winifred), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah), and Kathy Najimy (Mary), and even Doug Jones (Billy Butcherson) the answer has been that they would happily reprise their roles for a sequel.

“There was talk about doing a ’20 years later’ sequel that I would have been involved with,” Doug Jones shared with Digital Spy. “I was actually approached and asked about that. I would love to reprise Billy Butcherson.”

So if all the major cast are willing to return, why wouldn’t Disney put this in the works? Well it appears fans and the cast have been heard! According to Collider, a writer has been chosen to pen the script for Hocus Pocus 2 and production is in the works.

Collider shared, “Jen D’Angelo, who served as a writer and co-producer on Workaholics, has been hired to write the script for Hocus Pocus 2, which is in the works at Disney Plus (Disney+), Collider has exclusively learned.”

Original screenwriter, Mick Garris, has shown his support in the past for a sequel to the cult classic, Hocus Pocus, and would love to be included in the project.

“It’s a very, very happy part of my resume that I’m proud of, and that probably more people know me from that, despite my move away from family filmmaking since then, than know me in our very limited slice of the pie that our genre occupies,” Garris previously revealed to ComicBook.com. “If I can be involved in it as a consultant or as a director or something like that [for a sequel], I would be glad to be involved.”

It is not yet known if original director, Disney Legend Kenny Ortega, will return to direct the sequel for Disney+.

What do you think of a Hocus Pocus sequel on Disney+? Would you be excited if The Sanderson Sisters were back, yet again? How would they return and what sort of mischief would they get in to when returning, possibly, in 2020? We would love to hear your thoughts and theories in the comments.
