Possible Incident on Magic Kingdom Ferryboat Wednesday Night Leads to Reported Guest Injuries

Scary Scene on the Seven Seas Lagoon: Sudden Stop on Disney Ferryboat Sends Guests to Hospital

A magical night reportedly took a frightening turn Wednesday evening when a Walt Disney World ferryboat came to a sudden stop near the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC), causing passengers to tumble during a severe storm.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. as the General Joe Potter ferryboat, one of the iconic vessels that transport guests between the Magic Kingdom and the TTC, was making its final approach to the dock. According to guests onboard, the boat came to a jarring and complete stop, catching everyone off guard and throwing standing passengers forward.

Social media quickly lit up with firsthand accounts from shaken guests, many describing the moment as “terrifying” and “chaotic.” Several noted the heavy rain and stormy conditions that blanketed the area at the time, suggesting the weather may have played a role in the vessel’s abrupt stop.

Emergency dispatch logs confirm that a mutual aid call was issued at 12:02 a.m., matching the TTC ferryboat dock location. Units reportedly remained on site until after 2 a.m. Multiple sources indicate that nearly 20 passengers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation following the incident.

As a free-floating vessel navigating the expansive Seven Seas Lagoon, the General Joe Potter, like all of Disney’s ferryboats, is susceptible to shifting lake conditions, particularly during inclement weather. Unlike monorails or buses, there are no seat belts onboard, and most passengers remain standing throughout the voyage, which increases the risk of falls if the boat stops unexpectedly.

While Disney has not yet released an official statement on the incident, ferryboat operations resumed as usual by the next morning, with the General Joe Potter reportedly undergoing inspection.

This is not the first time weather has complicated watercraft operations at Walt Disney World, but it may be one of the more serious incidents in recent memory involving a large number of injuries.

For now, guests are reminded to hold onto rails and be alert during inclement weather when traveling across the lagoon—and hopefully, the next ferry ride is much smoother sailing.
