Walt Disney World has been busy recently preparing for many new additions to the parks and hotels. With the new Toy Story Land, upcoming Galaxy’s Edge and the 50th Anniversary right around the corner, it’s an exciting time for the resort. Part of the preparation has included room refurbishments at many of the on-site hotels. We just got a first-hand look at some of the changes being currently installed to the Alligator Bayou section of Port Orleans-Riverside. Let’s take a look and see what guests can expect from these new rooms.
Theming and Decor
The first and most notable change is the new theming. Before, Riverside’s rooms were generically themed to the bayou of Louisiana. That theme still holds but is now accented by special touches from the Disney film “The Princess and the Frog”. Curtains, beds, and art now feature scenes and characters from the classic movie. This new enhancement definitely adds a bit of extra Disney magic to the room.
The rooms have made the switch from carpeting to the new vinyl “wood look” flooring like other Disney hotels. This new flooring will be easier to clean and is being used to replace carpeting in all on-site resorts. Bathroom fixtures have been updated as well and now feature a more down-home style with accents like a washboard at the sinks. My favorite new addition has to be the extra installed USB ports. This should make charging all of guests devices a lot easier.
Furnishings
One of the biggest changes is the new platform beds with open space underneath for luggage storage. Finding space for your suitcase can sometimes be challenging so it’s nice to see they’ve thought about a solution. These new beds have their own special Disney touches like Tiana’s tiara on the headboards. Alligator Bayou section rooms will also come with a pull-down trundle bed. This child size bed easily folds up out of view when not in use and features fun art with Tiana, Naveen, and Louis. When the bed is not in use, it becomes a bench with drawers underneath. Brand new flat screen TVs are also being installed for guests to enjoy while resting from the parks.
The Port Orleans-Riverside room refurbishments are currently ongoing. As of the time of this writing, buildings 35-39 have been completed. Magnolia Bend rooms will be next to get refurbishments when Alligator Bayou has been completed.
