Today Port Canaveral has just released their 2021 budget plan & future sailing details. It has been a very dismal year for the travel industry across the board due to COVID-19. According to the report Port Canaveral expects a $37 million loss in the next year due to no sailings, the only thing keeping them afloat is their thriving cargo business.
Port Canaveral hopes to return to sailing starting in January with only four ships (one per major cruise line) with those ships operating at 50% capacity all year.
CEO Captain John Murray said many employees were laid off, furloughed, or retired early.
“It’s a not a pleasant thing to do but unfortunately, very necessary in the current environment,” Murray said.
The CDC no sail order currently extends through September and the cruise lines themselves have voluntarily agreed to withhold carrying passengers until at least Halloween for now. Murray predicted we might not see any cruises until early next year.
Disney Cruise Line still has its Very Merry Christmas Time Cruises listed on their website but with the uncertainty of COVID these itineraries could be canceled if the CDC no sail order is extended.
