The Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney has picked up the U.S. rights to the newest installment of the Babar TV franchise.
The CGI-animated series Babar And The Adventures Of Badou is an updated version of the classic Babar and is aimed at viewers ages four to seven. The new series introduces Babar’s eight-year-old grandson Badou and a new cast of his friends. Like the previous incarnations of Babar, it is set in the town of Celesteville.
Although the series features a majority of new characters to the Babar universe, original characters remain though, such as Isabelle, Pom, Babar, Celeste, Lord Rataxes and Lady Rataxes with other original characters mearly metioned.
The show is a Canada-France co-production from Toronto, Canada-based Nelvana Studio and TeamTO, in association with The Clifford Ross Company.
The series has already been sold in much of the world. It will premiere on Australia’s ABC TV on September 6th, 2010 and on Canada’s YTV on November 22nd, 2010. It will also air on Playhouse Disney outlets in France, Italy, Spain and Japan. Channels set to premiere the series in 2011 include Thai PBS, South Africa’s M-Net, YLE 2 in Finland, DR TV in Denmark and Norway’s TV2.
