The Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland has been undergoing a significant refurbishment, a process that involved completely dismantling the ride structure earlier this year. However, since a crane reappeared on this side of Magic Kingdom in May, we’ve seen various parts of the attraction slowly but surely returning. Piece by piece, the iconic ride components are being reassembled, signaling steady progress toward its highly anticipated reopening.
The reassembly of the Astro Orbiter has been a methodical process, starting with the crucial components. First to return was the black interior mechanism, responsible for lifting the rocket ride vehicles high above Tomorrowland. Shortly after, the distinctive silver spire, which points skyward from the attraction’s center, was carefully reinstalled. In the latest exciting development, the vibrant planets that encircle the ride’s sides have also been returned to their familiar orbits, bringing the Astro Orbiter closer to its full, iconic form.

The largest of the celestial bodies, a vibrant orb painted in shades of orange and yellow with distinctive dark brown stripes, is precisely set within a silver circle that forms part of the large ring encircling the attraction’s circumference.
Adding to the display are several smaller planets, artfully arranged below the main orange sphere. These are connected by a yellow pole, with three additional planets suspended in a Y-shape to the right side of the Astro Orbiter’s structure. These include a red orb with orange highlights, a blue orb with yellow highlights, and a dark blue orb. While their colors remain true to their original scheme, they now appear significantly brighter, strongly suggesting they’ve undergone a thorough cleaning and fresh repainting during the refurbishment.
The Astro Orbiter began its extended refurbishment on January 13. While an official reopening date hasn’t been confirmed, the attraction is currently expected to welcome guests again sometime in summer 2025. The park’s calendar presently indicates the Astro Orbiter will remain unavailable through at least July 18.
