PhotoPass Photographers are Here to Stay

PhotoPass Photographers are Here to Stay

We recently reported that Disney was planning to replace their Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers.  Beginning in 2019, they will begin testing a new system at 9 locations throughout the parks.  The plan is to install multiple cameras at certain character meet and greet areas.  These automated cameras will be positioned so as to take photos at all different angles.  The goal is to give guests the opportunity to have more photos of their favorite memories.  Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will no longer appear at those locations.  While there are many who will be saddened not to see some of their favorite Cast Members at meet and greets, there is great potential in this new system.  In the past, the Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers have been limited by where they could stand.  With the new cameras, they will be pre-mounted to get the best shots without having a person moving around to get them.

Fear not!  This does not mean the beginning of the end for our beloved photographers.  There will still be over 100 locations throughout the parks where you can still add to your memories with a human photographer.  Disney has assured us that Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will continue to capture your favorite shots.  Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will still appear in places like Main Street, USA, in front of the Tree of Life, and between Future World and the World Showcase in Epcot.  The photos they take, especially the magic shots and the frames they carry, are important memories for all families and will not go away.  I especially love getting photos at the water parks.  My family has gotten some excellent shots there over the years.

What is your favorite place to get photos taken?  How do you feel about these new cameras?  Let us know in the comments below!

  1. I experienced something weird two weeks ago. I just came back from my second ever trip to WDW while my first was Sept 2018. In September photopass was everywhere and with every character. Two weeks ago I visited Epcot entering from the back entrance from HS. I met the Evil Queen first then in an alley next to the American Pavilion I met Mickey, Goofy, King Louis and Chip&Dale. Later I ran into Mary Poppins and not a single character I named had a single Photopass photographer around. There were attendants for the Queen and three attendants for the five characters I didn’t see anyone around for Mary. All of the characters were outdoors and no photographer in sight. I don’t know if they were all in training for the day, but other than large staged areas with frames, I really didn’t see many Photopass photographers at all.
