New reports claim production companies Legendary and Warner Bros have worked out a new deal to create a Peter Billingsly-led ‘A Christmas Story’ sequel. Though the franchise had a “sequel’ released in 2012, there are no indicators that the new sequel will reference the events of the second movie particularly because Peter Billingsley was not involved in A Christmas Story 2.

Reportedly, Julie Hagerty (Airplane) will portay Ralphie and Randy’s mother for the sequel. Clay Kaytis has signed on as the director for the film, with Nick Schenk penning the script and acting as an executive producer for the project. Vince Vaughn and Peter Billingsley will also produce under their Wild West Picture Show banner. Production is currently set to begin this February in Bulgaria.

A synopsis from Deadline for the upcoming sequel, “The film follows an adult Ralphie in the 1970s, who returns to the house on Cleveland Street to deliver his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had growing up. With the same attention to real-life tone of the first, Ralphie reconnects with childhood friends, reconciles the passing of his Old Man and sews the seeds for the origins of the beloved holiday classic.“
