New permits have been filed with the Orange County Comptrollers office for the “fabrication and installation of Show Screens”. The location for the work to be performed is the functional address of the yet-unnamed Guardians of the Galaxy indoor coaster.
The listed contractor for the work is Spitz Inc., a company that is the world leader in projection domes. You can find other Spitz domes on Disney property and at The Griffith Observatory, IMAX, Universal and the Adler Planetarium. One of their more unique structures is an immersive dome with surrounding projections in 2D and 3D.
If their area of expertise is any indication, it looks like we could be getting a really amazing projection experience inside this ride. The permit states that the screen work is expected to be completed by June 30, 2020. This date keeps in time with the expectation that this ride will be ready for Disney’s 50th anniversary in 2021. It’s likely that once the install is complete, there will still be work to do before the ride opens.
