Documents filed in Orange County, Florida, reveal Disney’s plans to ‘install set elements’ at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The one-year permit names Icarus Exhibits, Inc., a frequent Disney partner, as the contractor. Notably, Icarus Exhibits is also contributing to the highly anticipated ‘Zootopia’ show at Animal Kingdom and the ongoing refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
A comprehensive transformation awaits Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, with a closure slated for this August and a grand reopening in 2026. This major overhaul will introduce a new scene with Buddy the robot, completely redesigned ride vehicles—a first since 1972—along with new handheld blasters and interactive targets.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, which opened in 1998, occupies a space with a history dating back to 1972. Originally ‘If You Had Wings,’ sponsored by Eastern Air Lines, it later became ‘If You Could Fly’ in 1987, and then ‘Delta Dreamflight’ in 1989, before its current iteration.
