Percy Jackson Disney+ Series Wraps Production
After years of development, Percy Jackson and the Olympians wrapped production on its first season on February 2. The serialized adaptation has been in development for three years (the concept was initially announced in 2020.) Filming of the first season’s eight episodes took place over eight months, and the cast and crew celebrated what is hopefully the first of many seasons on Disney+.
Executive producer Becky Riordan revealed on Twitter that Thursday, February 2nd is the “last day of photography” for Percy Jackson Season 1. Up next is an extensive post-production process filled with edits and polish that will take up much of 2023. Rick Riordan confirmed, “We still have months and months of post-production work to do, but the team is wrapping up in Vancouver with a sense of pride and accomplishment.”

The anticipated post-production work means that Percy Jackson and the Olympians should arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2024. The first season should encompass “The Lightning Theif,” the first of five books in the Young Adult series. Riordan has stated that each season should adapt one book per season, so if successful, we can look forward to at least four more seasons of Percy Jackson on Disney+. While Disney+ has not yet confirmed a second season, Riordan remains confident, saying, “I am pleased to tell you we are in a very good place as we look ahead to a (not-yet-greenlit-but-fully-anticipated) season two!”
