Our Spoiler-Free Review of 'The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild'

As of today, Disney+ subscribers can enjoy the latest installment of the Ice Age Franchise, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. The new animated adventure continues the hilarious escapades of the beloved sub-zero heroes from the wildly successful global “Ice Age” franchise as they create more prehistoric pandemonium.

Eager for a little independence, the thrill-seeking possum brothers Crash and Eddie set out to find a place of their own, but quickly find themselves trapped beneath the ice in a massive cave inhabited by dinosaurs. They are rescued by the one-eyed, adventure-loving weasel Buck Wild, and together, with the help of some new friends, embark on a mission to save the Lost World from dinosaur domination.

For those who grew up watching the original Ice Age films and now have children of their own, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild will be a fun addition to the franchise, but I want to make it clear that the story is a bit juvenile for older viewers. As a fan who grew up with the Ice Age movies as they were released in theaters and beyond, I was disappointed in how the story seemed to bounce around only to feel rushed for a resolution at the end. I was also sad to see elements of the other films completely missing from the movie and notably the animation quality was not up to the standard of the prior films.

The new characters were fun (I really enjoyed the addition of “Z”), but the “villain” of the story seemed more appropriate for a children’s television series rather than a feature film. In all honesty, a spin-off Disney+ television series featuring Buck, Z, Crash, and Eddie would be a good follow-up project.

This movie will be fun and entertaining for your little one(s) who loves stories about wild lands, wacky characters, and adventure seeking, but older children and teenagers will likely be less impressed with this choice for family movie night.

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is now available to stream exclsuively on Disney+ and stars Simon Pegg (Buck Wild), Justina Machado (“Z”), Vincent Tong (Crash), Aaron Harris (Eddie), and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Orson).
