Orlando International Airport Braces for Record-Breaking Spring Break Travel Surge
If you are flying into Central Florida for spring break, buckle up because Orlando International Airport is about to get very busy. Airport officials say MCO is currently in the middle of its peak 46-day spring break travel window, and the numbers are soaring higher than ever before. More than 7.4 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport during this period, marking an 8 percent increase compared to 2025, which had already set the previous record.

According to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the surge is fueled by Central Florida’s wide appeal as a vacation destination. Visitors flock to the region for its world-famous theme parks, golf courses, growing food scene, major sporting events, and of course that warm Florida sunshine that many travelers are eager to escape to this time of year. With destinations like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort drawing spring break crowds from across the country, it is no surprise the airport is seeing historic passenger levels.
The busiest stretch of travel is expected to run from March 12 through March 16, with Sunday, March 15 projected to be the single busiest day. Airport officials estimate that more than 211,000 travelers could pass through MCO that day alone. Passenger projections for the week show the steady climb in activity as the spring break rush reaches full throttle.
• March 10: 152,015 passengers
• March 11: 160,743 passengers
• March 12: 184,556 passengers
• March 13: 199,263 passengers
• March 14: 204,852 passengers
• March 15: 211,973 passengers (projected peak)
• March 16: 205,362 passengers

With those numbers climbing year after year, airport leaders are already planning for the future. Earlier this year, the GOAA board approved two parking garage expansion projects that will add thousands of new spaces at Orlando International Airport. Those projects are part of a larger capital improvement program that also includes upgrades to baggage systems, expanded gate areas, renovated restrooms and seating spaces, and additional shops and restaurants.
Tourism in Florida continues to reach new heights as well. The state welcomed a record 143.3 million visitors last year, and with travel numbers trending upward again, 2026 could easily set another record. For travelers heading to Central Florida during the spring break rush, arriving early and planning ahead may be the best strategy as Orlando’s gateway airport prepares for its busiest stretch ever.
