Orlando International Airport Expects Nearly 891,000 Passengers Over Labor Day Weekend

The unofficial end of summer travel is here, and Orlando International Airport (MCO) is preparing for another record-breaking Labor Day holiday rush. According to the latest projections, nearly 891,000 passengers will pass through the airport during the six-day holiday travel period, representing a 3 percent increase over last year’s record-setting totals.

Friday, August 29, is expected to be the busiest travel day, with more than 161,000 travelers scheduled to arrive and depart. Other peak days include Saturday, August 30, with an estimated 157,000 passengers, and Monday, September 1, with about 156,000 passengers anticipated.

To help families navigate the busy holiday weekend more smoothly, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched its new “Families on the Fly” security lanes at MCO. The program, rolled out nationally and piloted at Orlando, provides a dedicated option for families traveling with children 12 and under. TSA officers in these lanes are specially trained to assist with items like strollers, car seats, and diaper bags, making the screening process less stressful for parents and children alike.

MCO also recommends that travelers take advantage of its available convenience programs to make the holiday weekend easier:

  • MCO Reserve Parking guarantees a parking spot at the airport during the busy travel window
  • MCO Reserve lets passengers schedule an appointment for security screening, helping reduce wait times
  • Orlando MCO App provides real-time updates on parking availability and TSA wait times

With passenger volumes higher than ever, officials encourage travelers to arrive at least three hours before departure, especially for morning flights.
