Disney’s Newest Cruise Ship: Oriental Land Co. at the Helm
Disney cruises sailing from Japan will soon be operated through a partnership that includes Oriental Land Company, the company behind Tokyo Disney Resort, along with two other Japanese companies.

Oriental Land Company, LLC, has signed an agreement with the Nippon Yusen Group (Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Yusen Cruises Co., Ltd.) for this collaboration. The agreement between Oriental Land Company and the Nippon Yusen Group details how the two companies will collaborate on their first cruise ship venture. The Nippon Yusen Group will handle consulting, management, and operation of the vessel, which is being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. Oriental Land Company aims to create outstanding guest experiences as part of their “Family Entertainment Cruise” vision.
Disney is expanding its cruise offerings in Asia with a fourth Wish-class ship (alongside the Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny). However, unlike the Disney Adventure, which will be Disney-owned and operated from Singapore, this new ship will require a regional partner for operation, hence the agreement.
As part of its 2030 objectives, the Oriental Land Company (OLC) is expanding beyond its successful theme park and resort hotel management in Japan. Driven by the promising growth of the Japanese cruise market, OLC will leverage its operational expertise and strong partnership with the Walt Disney Company to gain a competitive edge in this new venture.
Combining the Oriental Land Group’s expertise in creating exceptional experiences in their theme parks and hotels with the Nippon Yusen Group’s maritime transport experience, including Asuka Cruises and advanced safety technology, the two companies aim to realize Oriental Land’s “Family Entertainment Cruise” vision.
