This summer the Walt Disney World Monorail will be operating on a new schedule to accommodate work that’s taking place on the automation system. It seems as though all the maintenance shut downs that occurred a couple month back was to lead up to these enhancements that are being done now.
So starting Sunday June 22nd 2014, the monorail system will be operating on a fixed schedule that will not follow regular park hours to accommodate these updates.
The schedule will be as follows:
- Magic Kingdom Resort line – 8:30AM till Midnight
- Magic Kingdom Express line – 9:30AM till 11:30PM
- Epcot line – 9:00AM till 11:00PM
While we know this is an inconvenience to some, Disney is making sure to have extra motor coaches and watercraft’s available to handle the excess crowds while the monorail is not in operation.
A time frame on the completion of this refurbishment has not been announced, but it is expected that the new operating schedule will be in place throughout the summer months.
When this enhancement is completed, the new automated monorail system will provide a more efficient service with enhanced safety. You can expect to see more frequent dispatch of the trains, faster switching times on the monorail lines, consistent running times as well as monorail arrival information.
Are you looking forward to the new enhancements?

Thank you, we have been before and usually opted for monorail there and ferry back. We’re visiting late July/August and with the heavier summer crowds I wasn’t sure about getting across in time for park opening xx
Once you arrive at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), you will be able to board one of the three LARGE ferrys that transport people daily across Seven Seas Lagoon (it’s personally my favorite way to go). It may take a few more minutes, but you’ll get to the Magic Kingdom in time for park opening 🙂
What would be your best advice for none disney resort guests (arriving by hire car) to get to MK for park opening if monorail won’t be starting until 9:30? xx
