At D23 Expo 2019 director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae shared details and more than ten minutes of exclusive footage from Pixar’s upcoming feature film Onward! Onward opens in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020, and stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as two teenage elf brothers.
Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) are two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left in the world. Set in a modern fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” is inspired by Scanlon’s personal experiences with his brother. In the film the brothers are given a special gift from their late father on Ian’s 16th birthday. But when an accompanying spell meant to magically conjure their dad for one day goes awry, they embark on a quest fraught with some of the most unexpected obstacles.
Holland, Pratt and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who voices Mom in the movie) delighted the audience as they joined the filmmakers on stage! On stage Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt discussed playing a family. There has been quite a bit of commotion about Spider-man this week, and while Tom did not reveal any Spidey details, he did say to the audience “I know it’s been a crazy week, but I want you to know from the bottom of my heart, I love you 3000.” Awe Tom, you always know exactly how to warm our hearts!
